Kindness has the power to transform lives. A small gesture—a listening ear, a comforting word, or a simple act of generosity—can make a world of difference, especially for children navigating the uncertainty of foster care.
At Voices for CASA Children, we see the impact of kindness every day—through volunteers who give their time, advocates who stand by a child’s side, and community members who support our mission. Kindness isn’t just a moment; it’s a movement that creates lasting change.
This month, we invite you to reflect on the power of kindness in your own life. Whether big or small, every act of compassion helps build a brighter future for the children who need it most. Be Kind!
In The Spotlight – Expanding Outreach Through Media Engagement
As a CASA volunteer, I have witnessed first-hand the profound impact a consistent, caring adult can have on a child’s life. And as I advocate for my youth, another child approaches me to softly ask, “Can I have a CASA, too?” That is why I – along with other CASAs – are passionate about spreading the word in our community about the urgent need for more volunteers.
As we embark on a new year, this compelling message is being amplified through recent and upcoming media engagements, highlights in local publications and social media channels, and other outreach efforts.
If you would like to learn more, check out an upcoming information session. Or if you would like us to speak to your organization, let us know – we would love to join you and share how you can be a voice for a child!

My CASA Journey – CASAs Take Pride in Knowing Their Youth
A CASA volunteer knows their kiddos favorite colors (no pink please!) or whether they like cats. It seems like a small thing, but it helps the child feel seen. That awareness becomes tangible when they request a stuffed animal for Valentines or looking for a particular backpack.
But it is the information they learn and carry about the child – from conversations in the car to court reports, or visits at school – that drive the actions of an advocate. CASA volunteers take these details and equip themselves with training on trauma to better understand their child’s outburst or strategies for those who withdraw.
Their focus on staying beside a child trying to navigate scary times is strengthened by a shared CASA community and connections to a community of resources. It’s a unique role for a unique time in a child’s life – one that will not be forgotten by either the CASA volunteer or child. At VOICES, we exist to support this journey with one trauma class, one superman backpack, one stuffed bear and one child at a time.
Positive Outcomes – Random Acts of Kindness Week
Living Kindness
CASA volunteers see everyday how even the smallest act of kindness can create a spark of positivity in a young person. This month we are highlighting Random Acts of Kindness Week (February 11-17, 2024), a time dedicated to uplifting others and helping make the world a more compassionate place.
Why does kindness matter? A simple smile, a thoughtful note, or an unexpected act of generosity can lighten someone’s day at a time when they may feel burdened by life’s circumstances. Communities who care and look out for each other are stronger.
Kindness does not have to be elaborate and dressed up. It can be simple and authentic.
- Send a Thoughtful Message – A call or text message can lift a friend’s, coworker’s, or volunteer’s spirits.
- Show Gratitude – Thank a teacher, healthcare professional, or a community volunteer, like a CASA.
- Be a Connector – Introduce someone to a resource or opportunity that could change their life.
- Be a Listener – Sometimes giving is more about time and attention.
- Pay It Forward – Cover the cost of someone’s coffee or meal.
Each gesture makes a difference, probably more than you will truly know.. VOICES is committed to promoting positive outcomes and the spirit of understanding and kindness year-round. Thank you CASA volunteers who live this every day.
Community & Youth Connections – AZ Blankets 4 Kids- Wrapping Foster Youth in Comfort
Giving back takes many forms, and the volunteers at AZ Blankets 4 Kids are a shining example of the power of community kindness. Through their dedication and craftsmanship, these incredible volunteers create handmade blankets to provide warmth, comfort, and a sense of security for children in foster care.
For youth navigating uncertainty, something as simple as a blanket can make a world of difference—a soft, tangible reminder that they are cared for and not alone.
That’s why Voices for CASA Children is proud to partner with AZ Blankets 4 Kids, ensuring that foster children feel the warmth of both a blanket and a supportive community.
We are so grateful for their generosity, passion for making a difference, and creating moments of comfort and hope for the children who need it most.
In Focus – Donor Advised Funds
CASA volunteers are crucial to determining a child’s best interest. However, most children in Arizona do not have the benefit of a CASA volunteer.
We are always looking for ways to help our supporters make the most of their generosity. One increasingly popular and strategic way to give is through a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)—a simple yet powerful vehicle that allows donors to maximize their charitable impact while enjoying tax benefits.
A DAF is like a charitable savings account. Donors contribute to a fund, receive a tax benefit in that tax year, and then, over time, recommend grant distributions. This gives donors flexibility in their giving while helping to ensure their philanthropy aligns with their long-term financial goals. A DAF can also be part of an estate plan.
To Grant From a Donor-Advised Fund:
- Contact your DAF provider and recommend a grant recipient and grant amount. DAF providers are typically wealth management or financial institutions.
- Reference the organization’s EIN: VOICES is 45-335995
- The DAF provider will review the request, generate payment of the grant and forward supporting documentation to the charitable organization
Please consult your tax advisor for additional details.
