Meet Barrie Moler, VOICES’ Accounting Specialist.

Name: Barrie Moler

Current city of residence: Mesa

What is your role at Voices for CASA Children?

My role at Voices is Accounting Specialist

How long have you been with the organization?

I have been working at VOICES since February 2019.

What’s your “Why” in “Why CASA”?

My daughter is a Kappa Alpha Theta and volunteered throughout college with CASA in Connecticut.  Throughout this time, she would bring home stories of the important work being performed by dedicated CASA volunteers and the impact this had on children. After returning to Arizona and retiring from a full-time career in healthcare finance, I began carefully watching for a meaningful part time job.  I was thrilled to find this opportunity and have been so happy to be part of this organization.

What’s the best part of your job? Why?

The best part of my job is supporting this amazing team.  I am forever in awe of their dedication and talent!

Dogs or cats? Coffee or Tea? Mountains or Beach?

We have had three rambunctious golden retrievers.  Who can resist those sweet faces?

One cup of coffee in the morning is a mandatory beginning to my day.

While I would never turn down a trip to the mountains, my heart is at the beach. I love to swim, kayak, and snorkel.

In what cities have you lived? Which one do you consider “home”?

My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante. I loved this story of the blessings and heartaches of friendship.

In what cities have you lived? Which one do you consider “home”?

Oh my goodness this one takes awhile to answer and some explanation!  I am the proud daughter of an Air Force fighter pilot. I can sing every word of The Wild Blue Yonder! We moved every few years as I grew up, but I was fortunate to spend all high school and college in Tucson.  My husbands’ career in telecommunications had us moving while raising our two daughters. We were blessed to spend five years in Europe and thirteen years in Massachusetts. Where do I consider home? Always Arizona!  We were thrilled to have the opportunity to move back in 2016.

What was your first job? What’s something you’ve done, but would never do again?

I am going to answer both questions!  My first job after receiving my degree in accounting was with Price Waterhouse as an auditor.  My experiences and training during this period were invaluable to my career. However, part of being a first-year accountant in a big firm is counting inventory, usually on New Years Eve.  I was assigned this task at an explosive’s manufacturer. I spent the evening in an underground bunker, dressed in a jumpsuit, hardhat, and antistatic boots (three sizes too big for me) counting cases of explosives and vials of nitroglycerin.  I can safely say I will never do that again!
